How To Improve Techniques In Macro Photography Chicago

By Gregory Hall

Macro photography has become a common activity to most photo enthusiasts. It does not require a lot of expertise, but it only requires an understanding of a couple of basic concepts. You must learn these aspects to acquire the best shots anytime you are out there taking photos of what you love. Here are guidelines for macro photography Chicago to ponder on.

Get the right lens. The kind of lens that you choose has an impact on your shots. The best macro setting is supposed to start at a framing ratio of one to one. The focal length is expected to be a minimum of one hundred millimeters to acquire the most accurate shots. Get a lens with a much bigger focal length if you want to take pictures of much smaller creatures.

Buy focal tubes. Focal tubes are devices that are used to increase the focal length of an image other than buying a lens. The focal tube is mounted at the rear part of the camera lens and extends outwards. Using these tools is cheaper compared with buying a new lens. You can continue adding the focal tubes to increase the focal length.

Ensure that your camera is stable enough. You cannot take accurate shots without a stable camera. The most common stabilization tools are tripods, but one can use other makeshift devices as long as they maintain the stability of the camera being used. Steady cameras allow the photographers to use a slower shutter speed that provides a small aperture that captures all the details that you need.

Use the right focus techniques. The fact that your framing ratio is appropriate does not guarantee a remarkable shot without having the right focus. The easiest technique to adopt include adjusting the framing to one to one ratio then move the stabilizer to find a perfect shot. The image stabilization feature is expected to be turned off, and a minimum focal distance is expected to be maintained as well.

Check the lighting. Lighting creates an ambiance for every photo and takes every detail. One can always adopt alternative lighting apart from the artificial one such as ambient lights, makeshift sources such as a flashlight and lamps and filters. You can as well adopt a reflector which makes harsh lighting bounce and creates diffuse soft lighting to the subject.

Take the shots at different angles. There is no harm in taking a photo in different angles. It provides an opportunity to get the right shot as well. Some of the techniques that you can use include putting your subject in various angles, tilting your camera and changing your position as well. Such consideration is quite suitable for someone who is taking the photos for display and creating a portfolio of a particular subject.

Consider the backgrounds that you adopt. You can adjust the backgrounds of your pictures if the original ones do not satisfy your expectations. Use common colors such as brown, black, sky blue and a combination of faded brown and sky blue to maintain the natural appearance of your subject. These backgrounds suit best when they are used in bright subjects.
