Forms Of Sexism In Sports Exhibited In The Current World

By Leslie Ball

There are many ways in which bigotry in sporting is depicted. However, it should be a thing of the past. Sportsmen of certain sexual nature are subjects to this form of discrimination. Instead they should be viewed based on their intrinsic worth. Natives need to understand each of the practices that are currently on the rampant. Mentioned below are several practices of sexism in sports seen currently.

One that is viewed by many is the fact that some activities are male dominated. At least every party should be given a chance. There are main arguments as to why the focus on typecasting women. Some include power, sizes and their general capability in sporting activities. This has not given room the involvement of both sexes. And that is why such forms of discrimination should not be allowed.

Referring women to tomboys or lesbians because of their engagement in football or basketball is unjustified. There is no one game that was made for a particular gender. Every side should be given a chance to participate. However, involvement of the women in these particular games does not mean otherwise. People should learn to view both sides positively rather than being typecasts.

Media plays a big role in our society today. It will either influence viewers on both sides. Majority in media portray women athletes for their attractiveness. What they leave behind is their merits in athletics. The main reason is because they view them as best for their business. Media should work to eliminate stereotyping rather that encouraging it.

It is worthy to understand that women as well make a lot of money. This is in comparison to what their counterparts make. Apparently, what is made by their counterparts if far much higher than what they make. This is because of endorsement from sponsors that their colleagues get. This is seen despite the outstanding performance seen in the female athletes. These leave them behind by far.

Ninety nine percent of the games being aired are male dominated. This leaves the question on whether there are games played by ladies. Definitely the answer for that particular question is a yes. The biggest deterrent to women being viewed is the coverage. Most stations will cover what is performed by male and leave behind women. It is being a chauvinist.

Another nightmare form of machismo is in the refereeing. This is where men are given a priority to women in refereeing. Men are regarded as stringent and very effectual in this job. On the other hand, women are said to be less stringent and very ineffectual. This is total bias on one side. This also cuts across the salaries given to both parties.

Above are things forms of stereotypes against one gender seen in sporting today. These are the most rampant that are still seen in the current world. What people should do is to embrace change. They should give room for both parties to participate. And thus they should be no discrimination in any way.
