What To Do To Use A Heliport Lighting System And Landing Facility

By Minnie Whitley

If you are interested in constructing facilities like helipads and heliports, it is important that you know the guidelines that are regulating this task. There are surely some guidelines that you will have to follow to ensure that the said facility is properly created. Not only that, these guidelines make sure that you are not disobeying the law.

If you take an interest in the construction of this kind of heliport lighting system and landing facility, then you have to go to a good lawyer. You have to ask for proper suggestions and sound advice from the lawyer, especially to that professional lawyer who has been handling this kind of problems for a long time now. They are the ones who can give clear answers to your questions.

Regardless of whether you can or cannot find a good professional lawyer who can provide you with the answer that you are looking for, you should know what the fundamental guidelines for it. If you have this basic knowledge, then you will get an easier time with the work you have at hand. Here are those requirements you have to comply if you plan to get this kind of portable runway.

The first thing that you will need to do is to get to know the Code of Federal Regulations. The said regulation allows you to know what documents you have to complete and what plans you should follow for the construction. It will make it easier for you to handle the construction if you have a plan made after considering the federal regulations.

There should be ample maneuvering zone for you. Thus, you have to find an area cleared of any projections no more than four feet above the planned helicopter deck. Make sure that your maneuvering zone extend at least a blade length or a rotor radius. In addition, there should be at least three feet space from the edge of the deck outward in all directions.

You should also plan for a clear approach as well as departure zones. The zones should extend to the open air space outboard of your vessel. There should be two paths in the helipad, each separated by at least a 90 degree angle. It should also be at the same width as your maneuvering zone. It should be free of any projections too.

The loading and stability of the said facility must be checked and calculated. You have to get the right measurement to ensure proper stability. If you cannot, then you are just putting the people who are in this facility at risk. You cannot ensure people's safety if you do not calculate this properly.

Have a hoisting facility as well. The helicopters usually have to deal with hauling items too. If you cannot ensure the existence of a hoisting facility, then the landing facility is not a suitable place to haul items at. If you have a hoisting facility, make sure that no projections are there to avoid hindering the vessels.

Have an operations manual. This is the manual that will depict the facility. There must also be a checklist of the safety precautions that must be followed in the document. If there are equipment requirements and restrictions, it should be drafted in the operations manual.
