The Positive Effect Of Strategic Insight In Modern Businesses

By Leticia Jensen

As companies emerged in the battle for survival they have also held on to the foundations of success based on what have worked in the past. For many businesses leaders, the game is about numbers. The more you learn how to analyze these figures the better your business will become.

In fact, business has been all about data analytics. This has been the basis whether to support an idea or reject it because it has little chances of impacting the company according to the data gathered. Basically, it is all about gathering data and strategic insight is not part of the game. Decisions were primarily based on the projection presented by data analysis or the marketing research department.

However, there is a sudden change in the way the game is played. Zuckerberg and Jobs introduced a new way of handling people in the organization. The concept that many business analyst despise in the previous years have been found effective in bringing up new ideas that work heavily. Thus, the game is now centered on people and their sentiments about a certain service or product the enterprise has.

Talking about the change in the rules of enterprise, we are speaking about the controversial way of management. This method aims to target the opinions and insights of people from bottom up, from managers to the lowest position in the company. This is all about gathering all the needs and ideas of everyone fair and square in order to come up with effective services and products for consumers.

In fact, business analysts pointed to the effectiveness of this type of management. The strength of the principle comes from the ideas coming from employees doing the same job everyday and people who frequently reaches out to consumers, for example, sellers and deliverymen. They also found that it is a good strategy in creating services and products fitted to the needs of consumers.

And rather than depending on what data has to say, business leaders following this principle will listen to what regular employees feel about the services because it is most likely how consumers feel about the services as well. Take for an example, Apple, it is clear that Jobs listens to his employees to create innovation. Here is what happened during the interview with Jobs.

The press asked Jobs about his greatest achievement as a market leader. He told the press that it was about Apple as a company, not iPhone nor he mentioned about iPad. He also emphasized that he he listened to his employees and embraced their concepts rather than relying alone on his intelligence. This what made Apple rise above all companies in the digital field.

Another inspiring story is the like button on Facebook and new homepage design of the social media site. Mark Zuckerberg and his team often organizes Hackathons, an event for software developers and programmers to develop newer products and concepts, in order to create new concepts and bring out the creative juices of his internal and external customers. This was when the like button was born that made Facebook successful.

All in all, it is believed that insights from various people can help upper level managers in coming up with ideas that could be tailored towards the needs of the consumers. It is also not fair to say that data analysis is not important anymore. But, it can be promising to say data and insight used properly can maximize company success.
