By Sarah Bell

A very important part of planning a wedding is selecting a professional to take your photographs. The pictures will be a lasting visual record of the day and choosing the right photographer is essential. There are many things to take into account when trying to find south jersey wedding photography and some thought and care is required.

When you are looking for a professional photographer there are a couple places to begin your searches. A lot of people who operate in the wedding industry will often share their details with others in the same trade. Bridal shops, flower arrangers and cake makers will all have some telephone numbers and email addresses for photographers in the neighborhood.

There are businesses on many high streets that offer wedding services including professional photographers. Speaking to your family, friends and colleagues who have used photographers in the past can also produce some good results. There are amateur photographers that do shoots for experience and practice and this can be a money saver but their work may not be of the highest standard.

Another useful place to search is the internet, where there are hundreds of established companies to choose from. Many web pages will feature examples of pictures they have taken in the past and this can help with ideas and your final selection. The web sites will also list phone numbers and other contact details to enable you to speak with them to discuss your requirements.

When you have found someone suitable, you will need to contact them, and set a date to meet for a consultation. Professional photographers will show you many examples of their work and they will advise you and discuss your plans. When you are happy, you will be given a price for the job, and it is a good idea to contact a few firms to allow you to compare prices.

When you have made your plans with the photographer, it is a good idea to spend a little time discussing how your images and prints will be presented. Special albums are a popular choice and the photographer should have some samples for you to look at. The majority of photography is now digital and your photographs can be presented on DVD discs or other portable media.

When your pictures are ready for you to view, the photographer will contact you, to arrange a viewing date. You will need to go through a large number of proof images and it is recommended that you take them home with you so that you can carefully select your pictures. When you have looked through the images and made your selections, the pictures will be mounted in the album or copied to your chosen media before being sent to you, or made available for collection.

Along with the albums and digital copies, other items may be available to display your images. A large number of companies can transfer your photos to a large canvas or have it etched on to a piece of glass. The photographers will often allow you to retain your proof copies but you need to bear in mind that you will need permission to reproduce them as they are protected by copyright.
