Banjo Playing Tips For New Learners

By Mary Ross

Music is one of the best things life can offer. This allows people to escape temporarily from all the havoc and chaos brought by the world. In addition, it helps individuals to express themselves in a more detailed way through lyrics and rhymes which makes those people who are listening to it feel the connection and understanding. Lyrics are basically an informal way of communicating to someone without actually talking to them. And music, without instruments are plain boring and rhythm less. There are so many exciting instruments out there and one of which is custom made banjos that is created based on how a musician wants it to look like.

Banjos are one of a kind with its versatility that comes in multiple and various flavor to fit every musical style there is. It can have different numbers of string depends on someone who uses it, so basically for someone new to this, they get to choose the type they want to work on. The best way to learn this instrument is by making sure the student gets to choose something suitable for them.

So, the four stringed banjos are typically being used for a jazzy tune like how Irish do their music. Five string are commonly used on traditional songs because they create a folkish tune that fits perfectly on traditional song. Then, last are six strings which are perfect for those who knew how to play guitar. This basically gives out banjo quality of music but through a guitar like style of playing.

When a student has a background on playing any string instrument, they may have an easier training flow because their hands are already flexible enough. Now, when starting to play this, ensure finding a best distance between strings to fingerboard. Something which is totally suitable and easy to manipulate length.

Once that area is settled, begin tubing in the banjo. For those who are not capable of doing it because they do not know how try asking someone who knows how to do that. They may as well visit the web to look for tutorials on how they can possibly do it on their own. For an easier tuning anywhere, try using electric tuners. They are efficient and extra convenient.

As the student begins to practice, they really have to pay close attention to how their bodies are structured. Posture is important to create a better playing environment and comfort for them. In addition, when bodies are appropriately postured, the hands are up next. Place them accordingly to allow an ease flow with finger movements.

Learn and study how to do picking. It usually is just a motion of sweeping fingers up and down but for newbies, this really is the most challenging part because it hurts the longer one tries. Anyway, try using the nails to make the pain a little lesser or invest on a pick to be used when plucking.

Study the basic rolls or patterns one wish to perform. Again, there are lots of sample videos on the internet that would make it easier for visual learners to learn what they want. Usually the patterns are repetitive so remembering it is not that challenging.

Then, once the basics are mastered, time to challenge oneself more by trying on those hard rolls. This needs several timing method along with proper picking. Practice and enjoy the play to create the best tunes out of it.
