Lions is an international club founded by Melvin Jones in Chicago Illinois on the 7th of May in the year 1917. The mission of this club is accurately brought out in its motto that states: we serve. Lions consists of 53 lions and 5 lioness clubs and approximately a population of 1.4 million members with the slogan:19 Lions Liberty Intelligence Our Nation Safety.
The club has some official colors which have different representations having purple to represent loyalty and integrity, gold to represent sincerity, liberality, purity as well as generosity. The entity is open for membership for individuals who are of legal majority and have good reputation in the community who have to be invited before becoming members. Interested members are required to contact their local club.
There is workshop related to this club known as Club excellence process whose main focus is on improving the functioning of this club. There are facilitators who guide the attendants through the four steps of workshop that take an approximate of four hours. They are required to complete a number of assignments with the guidance of facilitators who decides on the time to be taken to complete the assignments. The reason for holding the workshop as well as the factors that contribute to a club being excellent and how to determine their needs and the future plans of this club should be the basis of assignments to be taken.
Just like most associations there are laws and constitutions. These laws and constitution consider the name and the territorial limits, the multiple districts objects, club officers, council of governors, conventions and the finances. They focus on the effectiveness and efficiency of the functions of our club and equality among the members.
Development of this faculty can be development through the following ways: creating more branches, forming committees for the members, planning the sessions, developing and retaining members of this club. Meetings that contribute to effectiveness of that club should be frequently held so as to contribute to development and involving the organization to focus on the growth of this club.
The main focus of this club is the sight programs, hearing programs, diabetes programs and programs involving the youth. In managing the sight program the institution has developed The Northwest Lions Eyeglass recycling center to focus on the program which has managed to be the leading center in eye care and corneal transplants across the world. There are three programs for the older adults and are planning on starting a program for school-age children so as to make vision a health priority.
There are programs focused on restoring the hearing ability which include the hearing aid program that is responsible in providing hearing aid to all those who are not able to purchase it and the All American Hearing Program and is the specific provider in western part of Washington that is participating in the program. There is also support of other groups that offer other services that aim at helping the community financially and in providing additional health care.
Patients suffering from diabetes and the youth are also subjects of interest in the club. There are programs that deal with the youth and provide medical attentions for the individuals suffering from the disease. Youths are mentored in the program through workshops held.
